Place Location – Killarney Provincial Park is located on Georgian Bay, Ontario, Canada. 

Killarney Provincial Park showcases the pink granites of Georgian Bay Coast, white quartzite ridges of the La Cloche Mountains, and more than 50 extremely clear sapphire lakes. The park encompasses a vast wasteland area of wetlands, forests, and mountains.

These surrounding mountains and forests are home to some of the best hiking trails in Ontario. The landscape around the park is absolutely stunning. The white quartzite mountains offer a range of hiking experiences. The placid inland lakes and the beautiful scenery of Lake Huron’s Georgian Bay create an amazing landscape. You can witness sailboats racing in the sparkling blue water of the bay and canoes drifting silently along still lakes. 

Things to do at Killarney Provincial Park 

The park offers extensive amazing backcountry canoeing and sea kayaking experiences to the tourists. You can also experience hiking here at 80 km La Cloche-Silhouette Trail. Cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing in the winter season are also very popular among visitors. The hiking trails are well marked by blue and red markers on trees or painted on rocks. 

There is abundant wildlife in the park, including deer, black bears, moose, and foxes. The park habitats several bird species including songbirds, birds of prey, and waterfowl. You can experience biking on the bike trail along Chikanishing Creek. Canoeing and kayaking are permitted only in the interior lakes. The deep clear lakes, with a landscape of white hills of the La Cloche range, are a canoeist’s dream.

In the months of July and August, Natural Heritage Education programs for hiking, kids program, amphitheater programs, and artist-in-residence are offered at the George Lake Campground. The park has a small observatory and hosts several eminent guest astronomers throughout the summer season.

Killarney’s lakes are also famous as fish sanctuaries. You can also take pleasure in swimming at two beaches in the campground or in the interior lakes. The George Lake Campground is the best campground in Killarney Provincial Park. It is spread out along George Lake and has a mix of camping areas, a few close to the beach, others are clifftop, and some tucked back in private wooded areas. It also has a number of well-positioned yurts available for rent. Outside the Provincial park, you can find a couple of private campgrounds with a car or RV campsites.
