Elora Quarry Conservation Area is one of many conservation areas owned by the Grand River Conservation Authority. The landscape of this former limestone quarry is magnificently rugged, and the swimming area is clean and safe. It is located in between the quaint towns of Fergus and Elora. It is one of the best places to visit, located about an hour northwest of Toronto.

The center of appeal at Elora Quarry is the 0.8 ha limestone quarry, popularly known as the ‘old swimming hole’, encircled by sheer cliffs up to 12 meters high. The nearby park has many places for picnics and enjoying nature.  

Things To Do At Elora Quarry Conservation Area

The Grand River, approximately 2 km long, flows through the bottom of Elora Gorge Park, with limestone cliffs. This river was formed from the melting of glaciers, from the previous ice age. The Elora Gorge Falls are a waterfall, roughly 25 ft tall, located upstream from the Elora Gorge.

Lots of service, as well as un-serviced campsites, are available at Elora Gorge, where a maximum of six people is permitted per campsite. Families interested in swimming can visit the nearby Elora Quarry Park. Kids can have fun at the splash pad. 

The limestone cliffs surrounding the two-acre swimming area are about 12 meters high. It is a stunning backdrop for sunbathing on the beautiful sandy beach. Here you can also enjoy the picnic area with a barbeque as well as a one km trail that loops around the top of the quarry. Fishing brown trout in the Grand River between Fergus and West Montrose is another added attraction. Don’t forget to experience a thrilling ride down the Grand River on an inner tube. Tubers need to register, purchase a wristband and wear proper safety equipment.
